I just came across this post. Great work! Reverse Logistics is an evolving practice that is tricky to optimize. It is green by it's very nature. One of the things I see is the confusion between green logistics and reverse logistics.

Although they both intersect, the motivation behind "greening" is very different.

Most significantly, reverse logistics concentrates on saving money and increasing value by reusing or reselling materials recovering lost profits and reduce operational costs. Green logistics concentrates on transportation issues, recycling and re-use.

Marisa De Brito's doctoral thesis from 2003 identified that green logistics is about using material friendly options for transportation, is concerned about saving money, but the priority is on the company’s image and how to capitalize on it. This same theme was also examined by Nylund last year in her doctoral thesis comparing Wärtsilä and IKEA's green logistics and reverse logistics strategies.
